Today's stock market: Sensex rises more than 500 points in early trade, Nifty crosses the 17,900-mark.

Following gains in the global market, the main equity indices on the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) started the week more than 8% higher.

The S&P BSE Sensex was up 514.63 points (0.86%) at 60,474.48 at 9:18 AM, while the Nifty 50 was up 151.00 points at 17,937.80. (0.85 per cent).

On the Sensex pack, the top gainers in early trades were Dr. Reddy's Labs, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HUL, HCL Tech, and Power Grid, while the top losers were NTPC and Tata Steel.

In anticipation of the Federal Reserve sounding less aggressive about rate hikes this week, Asian stock markets rose tentatively on Monday. 

In contrast, wheat prices spiked after Russia pulled out of an agreement allowing Ukrainian grain to traverse the Black Sea.
